"Alphabet Street"

The drawings on this page are part of the series "Alphabet Street", inspired by the Prince song. Every front door represents a house in that imaginary street.

I used watercolour for the background and to create a blotchy effect, I sprinkled some salt on the water, just before it dried up. Salt absorbs moisture and in this case also colour, which leaves lighter spots where the aqueous colour is absorbed. The front doors are drawn with simple lines, yet they are detailed. I drew them with a black fineliner (or blue fountain pen) to allow the background to shine through.
