About me
My name is Shayla Tacke. I'm from Zutphen and I work as a French teacher. The last two years, I studied linguistics in the city of Lille, in France.
As a little girl, I was always busy drawing, painting or doing something creative. When I was in primary school, I took drawing lessons and in high school I took the finals in Art (theory and practice). Besides my love for art, a love for the French language started to develop, which made me deceide to continue my studies in that direction. During those years, drawing unfortunately fell by the wayside.
Because of COVID-19, I have more time, so I decided to gather all my drawings in a digital portfolio. Hence this site. And with my own site comes my own logo of course. Click here to see the realisation of the logo.

About my art
Over the years, my style has changed a lot. When I look back at what I've made when I was younger, I see someone who hadn't yet figured out what she wanted to create. What I make nowadays is always personal and I ty to stay as true to myself as possible. I incorporate for example themes such as music, food, architecture, artists, instruments and nature. If I don't fully stand behind what I make, the result will be a reflection of that.

My current style is characterized by a lot of colour and clean lines. I really like simplicity and minimalistic designs; less is more. Beforehand I always mesure everything as precisely as possible, so that everything is just how I want it. When I draw I never use a ruler. I've never been a fan of it and I have quite a steady hand, so it's a nice challenge to do everything with my own hand. My aim is to make it look as if it hasn't been done by hand. Like they are printed posters.

As can be seen, I sometimes use the same template multiple times for my drawings, in different ways. Most of the time, I really like the shape or the design, or I like the way it worked out. I feel like it would be a waste to limit it to just one drawing, so I re-use it and I save it.

I take inspiration from other art I see, from music, from things I experience and from things I like. I've always been quite stubborn, so I create whatever I want to create. That is because, the most important thing for me is that it makes me happy.
